Hello everyone!
Am so excited to be a part of a blog hop after so many years!
Time flies and it's been 3 years since I stepped down from design teams and started my own art business which took me away from this lovely stamping community.
When May from Altenew mentioned that Altenew was introducing a watercolor set and wanted me to be a part of their watercolor release blog hop, it took me a couple of minutes to remember what a blog hop actually meant! I was rusty to say the least!
When I was ready to start working on my piece, I went looking for a stamp set to get me started and the minute I saw the Arabesque Medallion stamp set, I knew right then that it would be perfect for my project!
A recent vacation to Spain had left me mesmerized and I was eager to paint the lovely tile work that I saw all over Seville, Spain, especially at the Plaza De Espana and Alcazar, Seville . The Altenew stamp set reminded me of those tiles and their Moorish influence. I thought the large medallion stamp would be a perfect jumping off point for my tile art.
Here are some of my pictures from Spain and the source of my inspiration.
Can you spot the missing dot of color in the picture below?

I tried to incorporate that little bit of inconsistency in my painting too!
The tile collection at the museum..
...I,.much to my husbands chagrin, spent most of my time here, !

Here you can see them on a bench.....dare I sit on it!
And then, I spotted this lovely shop which was selling old tiles, some restored and some antique from torn down buildings. I wanted to get some, before my husband drilled some sense in me and warned about luggage! Seville was our first stop on a long list of places to see, and we were yet to drag our luggage through the rest of Spain!
..sigh!
....now I gaze at these pictures instead of the real tiles! still wish I had got some! .... at lease one!

Aren't these stunning!

And now here is my version ..
"The Tiles Of Seville"
Watercolor on Paper- 20"x20"
I have used the brand new Altenew watercolors for this piece. I loved them! The colors are so vivid and bright and were perfect for this piece.
I tried my best to make subtle value changes to give it that look of old tiles. I might give it a wash of diluted tea and stain it a bit.
Here is another piece that I painted using just the watercolors minus the stamps. I embellished it with some gold foil .
Painted on handmade paper-rough
Here is a little bit of info about these watercolors...
