Watercolor Paintings

Growing up, I was often told to stop and listen to others before saying something, since there was always a lesson to learn from other's thoughts and experiences. Today, when I look back I feel that was the most important lesson of my life. I am now so tuned to listening more than talking that I barely speak until spoken to!

I am glad I listened to all those who requested/ advised me to put my work out there for all to see and make it available for I wish I had done this sooner!

One request that I have been receiving since I opened my shop is to offer large size paintings. For now I will be offering a standard 8x10 sized art done on a 9x12 paper which is easy to mat and frame in a 11x14. Once I figure out a safe and sturdy way of shipping the art work I will be ready to list's coming soon!

Thank you all for the overwhelming response to my Etsy shop.....
...I am grateful and I hope all those who purchase are pleased with their  cards and paintings!

Also, am now on Instagram, so if you want to see some work in progress pics then follow me there!

Every single year since we have started a garden, sunflowers seem to come up all by themselves! We have never planted them intentionally and yet we have a lovely spread of color! We thank the birds for it!  They come to our bird feeder and eat to their heart's content, often emptying the feeder all at one go and in return they sow the sunflower seeds for us!

The best way to capture this color and make memories of them is to take a picture and better still is to paint them!
..and that's exactly what I did yesterday...painted some happy little sunflowers!

                   Sunflower 1

                             Sunflower 2

These two cards are currently available on Etsy and pretty soon you will find a large size painting..(9x12) of these sunflowers too....perfect to brighten up your home!

Papertrey July Blog Hop Challenge

Am back with a card for the Papertrey  July blog hop challenge. I chose to work with the wonderful mix of colors in the inspiration picture.

The butterfly and sentiment stamps are PTI - Meadow Greens and Happy Trails. The background is done using watercolors.

Here is a closer look....

You can now find this and many more watercolor cards on Etsy.

Thanks for stopping by and have a fun weekend!

Faith and Prayer

Sharing some new work today....
...for a long time now, I have been painting watercolors and adding quotes to them that are encouraging and supportive in the hope that when someone frames them they read something positive and thought provoking. But a recent suggestion about faith based cards rekindled my interest in that area and I decided to make some for those who believe that  prayer changes everything.

Personally, I have tremendous belief in the power of prayer. Prayer helps and prayer heals and that is how I was raised. So I decided to add a new section in my Etsy shop called faith cards. Here you will be able to find faith and prayer based quotes on the cards.

...hope you like it!

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day!

Summer blooms

Lately, I have been in the mood for and more flowers....
....with all the lovely summer blooms in my garden, I can't think of anything else to paint! I guess this is what long winters do to us,we just crave for color and fragrance and flowers!

I have been putting up quite a few floral cards on Etsy and here is another one from this week. I intend to keep painting more floral cards and then perhaps do some landscapes. Last week I painted some free hand and this week I started with stamps. Here I have used a Penny Black stamp-Jubilant and the sentiment is by PTI.

Thank you so much for all the emails and the wonderful response to my Etsy shop . I am working on those requests.  In fact the most popular request was the Penny Black sunflower card I made last year for the Website Wonder contest.  So I made one yesterday and is now currently on Etsy.

Thanks for stopping by today and have a wonderful week ahead!

Etsy - watercolors by sanketi

For a long time now I had been contemplating a website where I could showcase my watercolors and offer them for purchase. But I am not good with these things in general, especially the part where I need to tell people about it. I have always been shy of selling! I almost always just give them away when somebody says they like my work!

But a recent conversation with  a fellow artist made me realize how important it is to price and sell your work not just for the monetary aspect, which, no doubt, in itself is very important but the fact that it tells you what people think about your work and helps you improve. Family and close friends always have a kind word for my work, rarely do I hear anyone critique it, except for my husband  though, who always has an opinion for me!

In the past I have had people ask me if I sold my work and as much as I would have loved to do that, I did not really know how to get started. I had opened an Etsy account long back and forgotten about it, until I was reminded by my friend to start with Etsy!

So that's what I did...
.....I am finally on Etsy !

Watercolor Sketchbooks- Video

Hi friends,
I have a video for you!
.....................Yes ..finally!

I had not realized how long it had been since I uploaded a video, until I got an email from a regular subscriber asking me about it and requesting some info about sketchbooks. I went to check the last video posted and it was way back in Feb...gulp!

I decided it was time I got my camera charged and back in order..there was no way I could disappoint my subscribers, which as I see today has crossed 1500 ! I am so grateful to all those who have subscribed and hope to start my regular postings again.

Coming back to my sketchbooks, I was asked about my favorite sketchbook and since it was impossible for me to pick just one, I decided to do a video and show you some of my current and past favorites. Also I will be showing you my current watercolor field sketching kit  and my first and most favorite travel palette, a Cotman Sketchers box.

Since I love handmade paper, I do have a few journals which have rag or Khadi paper and truly enjoy working with them. Presently am looking for a paper made in Nepal called 'Lokta' paper, which is made from the Lokta bushes . I just can't seem to have enough of these, I love the texture and look of the deckle edged papers! Unfortunately not all are suitable for watercolors, and care has to be taken if you are purchasing them for a water based medium. Most are usually sized well, but some can be tricky with uneven sizing. Sometimes it's over sized and paint just washes off the surface!

The fun is in finding the right paper and experimenting!
...can you tell I love paper!

Here is the video...

I hope you find this useful if you are looking for unique and different papers to paint !

Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!
