Blown Ink

This week's PTI  Make It Monday #114 took me back to my childhood!

Blowing watercolors/thinned paint using a straw was something I would do all the time, in fact my friends, not realizing how simple it was, thought it was some kind of a trick, and would keep asking me to make differents shapes..tree,flowers clouds!
I don't know when or where I had picked it up, but I used to have lots of fun with it!. Back then we did not have plastic straws and I would use the paper ones and go through quite a few of them trying to show this "trick"to my gullible and believing  friends!
.......as I watched the video by Dawn, I thought how quickly we forget some simple but fun and easy little techniques and it had never occurred to me, all these years to use it on a card.

Since I did not have any reinkers, I went the old fashioned way and used diluted watercolors and tried to blow myself a tree !
The bird is by Memory box and the sentiments is by PTI

It was so much fun revisiting an old favorite of mine. Thanks Dawn!

Papertrey Ink April Blog Hop + Giveaway Winner!

Last month I was away and missed the Papertrey Ink  blog hop , and this month too I almost did, was way too busy all morning and just could not get to making a card. Just got back and immediately  sat to get one done. A pretty simple card  but I really wanted to attempt the 'at an angle' trend and I loved it!

I thought twice before posting this card...as much as I love the sentiments at an angle, I felt as though something was missing, but since I was already running late to join the hop, I decided to go ahead and link it up.

I added a bit of added interest by stamping the stripes in light grey.

It's Michele's (owner of CAS-ual Fridays challenge blog  and stamps ) birthday and  it was only natural for us Girl friday's  to have a blog hop wishing her the very best!
............. you should have come here from Leigh Ann's blog...

I wanted to create something special for Michele and I hope my card shows it!.

I wanted to create something special for Michele and I hope my card shows it!.

I tried a new technique shared by Jennifer Mcguire, where we iron off the embossing powder to leave white highlights on the paper, a very interesting effect!. The stamping, masking  and embossing took me quite a bit of time(1 hour! ), but then the coloring was a breeze and I used traditional watercolors , since it's always on my desk and also since I have no distress markers!

Also, to add a bit of dimension to the card, I colored and fussy cut some extra leaves and adhered it.

 Stamps- Jane's Doodles, Papertrey Ink.

Wish you the very best Michele, and hope you have wonderful year ahead!

Here is the  blog hop list

...your next stop on the hop would be Alice's blog...

The Ink Squad girls from CAS-ual Fridays Stamps are also hosting a blog hop for Michele!

.......you can follow  them too: DanaKarenKellyLaurieLynnMichellePiali, and Virginia!

A New Home

Hello everyone, hope you all had a nice weekend, mine was bit too busy and was over before I realized it was a weekend!

Anyway this afternoon , I decided to make some time and create a card for Play date Cafe, it had been a long  time since I played along their challenges and their current color inspiration had orange and aqua  and if you have been following my blog then you know I love aqua!

Ever since I made this card , the PTI Boards and Beams stamp set has been lying on my desk , so I decided to use the same set and also use the same watercolor embossing technique that I had used on that card.

Some masking and repetitive stamping and of course watercoloring!

I have a  Faber Castell Giveaway  coming soon, so standby if you are interested in some lovely colorful goodies!

Black and White

Update-   It's a Winner!

Before I get on with today's project, I want to thank you all for all the wonderful comments on this card. I was overwhelmed to say the least!
In fact this is a mystery I have yet to solve, some cards get a deluge of comments, almost like every person who saw it commented, then there are those cards which get like 150 views and barely a trickle of comments!
which makes me think what makes a person leave a  comment?
..yet to find an answer, if you have one let me know!

Now coming back to today's card...
Today as I sat browsing and looking for new challenges, I came across Annabelle Stamps ' challenge. I knew all along that  they hosted challenges , but had assumed they would want us to use their stamps on our project, but no!... anyone could could play with or without their stamps! Great!

Their current challenge AC 160 is a color challenge- Licorice and White.

I sat to create and just could not translate my design onto paper, so, I decided to put it aside for later and instead,  got my sketchbook out, to sketch the beautiful grey rainy day outside. As I completed that sketch I realised it was black and white, and perfect for the challenge!
..but... decided to redo and  use a  stamp for my focal image, just so that if any of my readers wanted to give it a try and were not good at sketching , they could.

The image of the church and the sentiment is by Clear dollar Stamps. I colored around it using watercolors and added a tiny hint of  Diamond stickles to the windows  to show light filtering out and  also on the trees

A simple watercolor wash can add so much depth and interest to an image!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.
