Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers who celebrate this wonderful holiday!
We have a lot to be thankful for, so why not start with the people who make us happy!

Will keep this post short since lunch around here is still a distant dream  and people at home, who I want to be thankful for, might end up being not so thankful for a hungry tummy!

City Scene- Papertrey Ink Nov blog Hop

Time for Papertrey Ink November Blog hop.., I went with homes downtown and created a cold wintery evening scene.  Homes lit with warmth and glow !

I just can't seem to put away my PTI City scene stamp set! The buildings, trees and sentiment are from Papertrey Ink and the car image is by Mama Elephant.

I have used distress inks to stamp the images and went around it with watercolors to build a scene.

Exciting News!

Could not wait to share this with you all........
........am a part  of  the Crafter's Companion USA Inspiration team... here is the announcement ! from Jan 2014, you will be seeing my work for Crafter's Companion USA!

Now that I have finally spilled the beans, I can resume normal activities! It's so hard when you want to share something, but have to wait and wait and wait!

So let me show you my card for today...
I played along with PTI MIM#141, loved the technique and here is what I came up with...

                           Stamps-In The Meadow-Papertrey Ink

I started by die cutting the snowman and tracing the outline of the  image, then watercolored it. Stamped it with Versamark and embossed it with clear embossing powder, (since I did not have the heat and stick pdr) and sprinkled glitter while still warm and heat set the glitter.

A closer look at the glittery goodness!

Watercolored the background using the salt technique for some added texture. For those who want to know more about this technique, PTI had a tutorial that I mention in this post.

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing my excitement!

Thank You Cath!

Last week there was a HUGE blog hop for Cath Edvalson, trends editor for Paper Crafts Magazine and the host of the Moxie Fab World Blog. she recently retired and  a whole lot of papercrafters decided to come together  and a hop was organized...BUT, I was living under a rock and was unaware, until after the linky closed!

So, I decided to share my card here on my blog and thank her for the difference she has made in my life. Cath was one of the first few people who recognized my work and thought it was interesting enough to share with the paper crafting world.  My work was constantly appreciated by her, whether it was a challenge win or a highlight, she knew how to skim and pick through hundreds of entries. My work being highlighted was good enough, but her write up about how and why a particular entry was chosen always made me think! It was such a huge moment for me when I was featured as Moxie Fabber of the week. Her keen eye for design and trends, truly made her different!

You will be missed Cath!

Stamps- Papertrey Ink-Meadow Greens, Thank You -Inside and out.

Using a fine brush, I painted the stamp with masking fluid and stamped it. This saves the white of the flower and allows you to work on the background without the need to be careful or having to go around the image. Once dry, the masking can be removed very easily by rubbing on it with an eraser.

ETA- Masking fluid is a latex/rubber fluid used to mask and save the whites/washes in a watercolor painting, especially delicate, intricate  areas which are hard to go around. I have used Winsor and Newton Art colorless masking fluid.

Inked the stamp again with a very light grey ink and stamped the image to get the finer details of the flower.

A closer look at the details.....

......stamped the sentiment, which truly conveys my gratitude.

Thanks again Cath, for all the inspiration and encouragement and contribution.Wish you the very best for all your future endeavors.

Sunshine After Rain

A snowy day here,  we are already seeing a bit of snow this week  and I am loving it ! It was supposed to be just 2 inches and I assumed nothing would stick to the ground, but looks like more than that  and we are covered in white. The first snowfall always makes me happy and excited, blessing from heaven as I call it! As the New year rolls in, I am sooo tired of  cold and coats, I am praying for Spring and green..lol!

Played with PTI city scene some more and used this week's Papertrey Ink MIM # 140 for inspiration.  Coloring with ink pads by Ashley.

                       stamps-PTI_MeadowGreens,City Scene

Used  wild honey Distress ink pad and dragged it across the paper. Sprayed  the bottom part, since I 'have' to use water on my paper! Stamped the Eiffel tower and the bare trees from City Scene  while the paper was still damp. The sentiment is from PTI Meadow Greens.

A closer look....

I loved the look and vibrancy of distress ink...hope you do too!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Greetings from Paris!

 Second post for today..
for my Niji post click here

My Season's Greetings post had a reader asking me how I created the wet foggy look on my card and if I had a secret to share!
..I wish I had something to tell, but,  honestly.... no.... I don't !

Whenever possible, I try to explain how I achieved a certain effect, but most times, it's just trial and error and happy accidents! With watercolor, it's about knowing when to stop fiddling and letting it just be. It took me a long time to understand that, but once I realized that, I began enjoying watercolors !

Most of my work is done wet in wet, as in dampening the paper and applying color, I enjoy this technique the most. This almost always leads to some surprise mixing and blending of colors on their own which gives some really good unintentional effects. At the same time, this is very difficult to copy and recreate,  every piece will be unique and slightly different from each other.

For all those questions about how to go about watercoloring, my only answer would be.....accept the unpredictable nature of this medium, that would be your  first step towards success and of course, keep trying and experimenting ..don't quit!

Some day I hope to start doing video tutorials, until then, I shall help and encourage all my readers through stepped out pics! For now, I have some over Faber Castell and Niji .
Hope this helps!

Here is today's card ......

I played around some more with my PTI city scene stamp set and here is what I came up with...
..After London, it's greetings from Paris!

Watercolored a scene around the stamped images.

Also brushed on some Iridescent medium on the Eiffel Tower, it gives it a shimmery silvery( are these even words or have I just made them up? hmmnn!) effect.

CAS-ual Fridays -embossing

Hope everyone enjoyed Halloween yesterday, it was really quiet around here. I guess  the dull, windy rainy weather did not really help!

So with Halloween behind us, time to get ready for the holidays. This week CAS-ual Fridays has an embossing theme going on and I have a gold embossed card to share.

I kept the sentiment very faint in grey so as to not move the eye from the glow and warmth of the fireplace. A very simple card with a hint of gold.

We have Ellen Hutson sponsoring the challenge, so don't forget to play along!

A closer look at the embossing.
