Folk art

Update: this card received a shout out over at the Moxie Fab World - Trigger Target

Am back with a card inspired by the latest Tuesday Trigger over at the Moxie Fab World

and here is the trigger....

I loved the folk artsy look, keeping that  in mind, I stamped a number of flowers, twigs, leaves and butterflies  using the colors in the trigger photo which turned out to be a beautiful  background for the  little blue birds, which I colored using Copics.
Added a couple of butterflies for some added dimension...and of course it had to have a birthday sentiment on it because after all we are making this card for Cath's mom who is celebrating her milestone birthday on Friday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Make Your Mark

A couple of years back,  I had collected quite a few catalogues to help me  in my search for that perfect 8 way hand tied sofa which would have been my ultimate in sofa luxury!
.......of course that did not happen and I very contentedly settled for something more machine made, but I held on to those books because they had some really beautiful artist's renderings of couches and also in the hope that I would  order from them one day in the future!

Today, as I was clearing some old books and magazines, I came across these and saw those sketches and thought....  hmmm .that would look nice on a card!

..instead of watercolors I used Copics to color them.
..and here we have it ..

Inspired by the box of crayons in the inspiration picture, I die cut all those pencils/crayons using the Happy Trails die by Papertrey Ink ....hand drew and cut the box ... and added a bit of pastel pencil , white ink and embossing to get  the chalkboard look. The sentiment on top is from the PTI Movers and Shakers sentiment set.

Papertrey Ink January Blog Hop - Take 2

This is my second post for today, for my first PTI Blog hop  post click here or scroll down..

Here is  my second card for Papertrey Ink January Blog Hop...gotta love black backgrounds!

I used the Simply Jane die  by Papertrey Ink for this negative die cut technique, the focal image is in fact a true grey , but despite several attempts, I failed to capture that through my lens..well!

Also I stamped the background using the frame stamp from the Simply Jane stamp set, which again is showing up very faintly..anyway happy with the card layout and design on the whole , so thought of sharing it with you all.

Success at last with this close up...notice the grey here!

Papertrey Ink January Blog Hop

Time for Papertrey Ink Blog Hop and this time the focus is on black .........black backgrounds.

Every single time I watercolor on a project , I am left with quite a few scraps which are too good to be thrown away, so, I hang on to them and then....
..........one fine day it appears again on a project!

and here is the inspiration picture......

..here I stamped the house from the Boards and Beams set by PTI  on a scrap piece of watercolored paper and then gold embossed the sentiments from the same set.

A closer look at the gold embossed sentiments...

Love black backgrounds, the colors just pop with a hint of black beside it, hope to get one more done!

Birthday Wish!

Am back today  with a colorful card for Runway Inspired challenge, their latest inspiration picture had me going around in circles!
....started with a stamped card , moved to watercolors, back to to stamping  and finally decided to blend them both!

4x6 sized card

Here is the inspiration pic..

I knew the moment I saw the way the model had posed , I had to do something with an angle to it, and of course, the circles had to be my focal point.  I did take some liberty with the colors though, the basic colors are the same , just a tad brighter.

The circles are stamped in black ink and colored with watercolors. Also I added some vellum circles to give it that translucent feel that the gown has.

 Stamps- Inkadinkado and PTI,

Post It !

Today's card has a very funny story to it.......
.......ok so , I sat at my desk yesterday evening to come up with  a card for Simon Says Stamp - Washi Tape challenge,  I got my sentiment stamp out, but, first stamped on a small Post-it note  and stuck it on  my black card to check the scale and see if it was too small for my 3.75 x 6 sized card... ...my DH walks by and says  " Wow! that's a nice card, very different, that would be perfect for guys!"

That's it , I got thinking, checked from various angles and decided I would go ahead and keep it, post it and see what my Blogger friends had to say!

...here it is.....

I added the Washi tape and called it done( which of course was met with disapproval for it's flowery  look..perhaps a blue striped washi tape would have been better! )

..................so what do you all say.. is it a keeper?????

In fact  after the initial hesitation , I am loving it,with all the different sizes and colors of Post-it's available out there, the possibilities are endless! So far I had always used these for masking , now it's the focal point!

...my card is 3.75 x6

As I sat to write and post this card, I literally laughed thinking about how somethings evolve, really, never thought yesterday evening I would end up with a card with just a Post-it on it!!!

Damask

Yet another fabric inspired card today..this time it's some vintage Damask fabrics...

I thought of The Moxie Fab World- make your own background paper challenge and decided to stamp some damask print on a slightly textured cardstock to achieve the feel of  linen fabric

Also sharing this with CAS-ual Fridays latest challenge - long and short. Although it's an all over print , I think it's still pretty CAS..don't you think so?

Also cut a window on the front of the card and added a frame which serves as a teaser to the sentiment inside...sharing with The Moxie Fab World - Make a card with a window challenge

Inks or Watercolors ?

After my last post where I  used Copics to get a watercolored hand painted look , I decided to use my inks to achieve a similar effect. I am pretty pleased with  the soft subtle look ,washed look,  as though the women are standing under high mid morning sun!

Edited to add better daytime pics

I stamped and shaded the image using ink and a brush..just brushed against the ink pad and went over the image to create some subtle shadows and highlights. the green was also done in a similar way.

Stamps- PTI , Simon Says Stamp

the colors were inspired by 10 min Craft Dash...grey, pink and green. this card took me 9 mins 20 secs.

and a tall and skinny card for CAS-ual Fridays

Copics or Watercolors?

Right  before I got into Papercrafting  full time, I used to quilt , small,  big, appliqued wall hangings , you name it, I have done it. I loved sewing and used to be at my machine for long hours.... and then.. Papercrafting happened ....and  I just could not get myself to give away all those beautiful yards of goodness!

As I was  sorting and  organising  my studio  last week , I decided to go through my fabrics and air them a bit.  As I sat to refold all these beautiful yards of fine linen, fat quarters and lace, I came across this pretty floral fabric filled with roses and leaves, I was instantly transported to the Amish Country, to a small boutique in a quaint little picturesque town ... a sweet lady, who proudly showed me around the store and helped me pick fabric. This particular yard of fine cotton , I had purchased to make a dress for my niece, which of course  never got done!

........instead I thought it was time to translate it  into a card...........

I was aiming for  soft cotton fabric kind of background paper. I used stamps by Janes Doodles and Copics to color and added glossy accents for the water droplets.

To achieve the watercolor hand painted effect , I stamped the roses and leaves in grey and then colored in using Copics  RV13 and R35..shocking right..for serious Copic certified masters, that might be a big faux pas!....but I was aiming for a shaded rose , so it just worked for me.

love the way a tiny bit of Glossy Accents for the water droplets just adds that little something extra to the roses.

A closer look -  by stamping using  grey ink, you can barely see the lines, ideal for  that hand painted look.

Great News!

 Great news indeed!
...  The Jan and Feb issues of Cards and Create Idea book  magazines have published  3 of my cards!
(check out the sidebar of my blog  for the magazine cover and page number)

This week's challenge over at CAS-ual Fridays-CFC 85 is to create a project featuring at least one circle and a round of applause as the theme. here is my card......

I started with the  sentiment in the center as my focal point( but of course!), and then built around it with the image stamp and the other two sentiments....easy peasy!

CFC85: Round of Applause- CAS cards that celebrates an accomplishment, and feature at least one circle.

Stamps- Papertrey Ink and Studio G, Ditto.
